Ziobur came to the US from Malaysia in November, the first time that he saw snow was in Portland earlier this year. He speaks very little English and his native language is Rohingya. We don’t really know why Ziobur came to the states, but the Rohingya people in Malaysia have experienced a lot of persecution. […]
Our trip with Centennial Middle School was a blast with some extra good weather. Andrew and Zelyna led the group lesson and we were skating around pretty quickly. Jacob and Austin joined us for the first time and did great with a group of students who were ready to ride before lunch. Ellie is 14 […]
For our second trip with Open School, we had a split of returning and new students.
Hacienda students had great attitudes and were great on a snowy day. They learned fast and wanted to keep riding until 3:30. Most students made it up on the lift. A few for the first time ever!
Stephanie and Andrew kicked off the season with our new partner, Open School. They are a rigorous college-prep program for amazing kids who need something different than traditional school. This season we took on eleven trips, one more than ever before, to include the Portland Parks & Rec Teen Force program. We thought their organization seemed like such a good fit! They did not disappoint! After everyone was geared up we hit the road to Summit. We arrived with all our gear laid out […]
I Have A Dream (IHAD) Foundation was my last trip of the season and it was a blast! These kids had ridden with us a few times so most were ready to get up and go. New volunteer Ian built a little jump with Dale and a bunch of dreamers. We were also thankful for […]

One coach traded boards with a frustrated student only to realize just how sticky the snow, and his board, really was as he made the […]

Snowdays had worked with teacher Ken Gadbow in the past, but this was the first time at the East Portland High School. Pretty much every student had never been on a snowboard, but a few skated nearby Glenhaven skate park. The skaters started ripping pretty quick and the rest of the squad followed. By 3:00, […]
