Trip 4: New Avenues

The kids (not really kids as their ages ranged from 19 to 23) are all participants of New Avenues for Youth, which is an organization in downtown Portland that offers programs and services that empower homeless youth to exit street life. Needless to say these kids had a ton of stoke and couldn’t wait to get on the hill. Temperatures exceeded 60 so sunscreen was in high demand.

Austin was an absolute natural and within two runs was connecting turns and racing the snowdays coaches to the bottom. It was his second time snowboarding and he spent the majority of the day lapping the Mile and Palmer chairs.

Caleb, the youth in yellow an army vet from Louisiana was so thankful and appreciative for the opportunity. He was beaming with ear to ear grin for the most of the day and never gave up when he fell down or caught an edge. Overall everyone had a blast and can’t wait to go again.
