Trip 6: Momentum Alliance

Partnering up with Momentum Alliance – a non-profit designed to inspire youth to realize their power individually and collectively, and to mentor future social justice leaders – this past trip was absolutely great.
We started off the morning getting to know each other by sharing our names, the school we attended and our favorite dance moves. A little dancing and lots of laughter were exactly what was needed to get everyone up, ready and excited for the day to come.
At Timberline, we were greeted with a beautiful sunny and warm day. Perfect conditions for a group of mostly first time snowboarders. As the group was fairly large, we started off by breaking into two smaller groups where the basics could be taught on a very one-on-one, coach to rider style. With the overall willingness and eagerness of the group, it didn’t take long before everyone was up on their boards, practicing turns and stops.  Morning lessons were a success and by the time we were done with lunch, the group was ready to tackle some greater challenges – seeking adventure in riding the large hill down from the lodge and coasting down to the ski lift, only to do it all over again.
As the day concluding, most of the group ended up playing in a friendly snowball fight, tired from snowboarding but happy in the sunshine and snow. It was an great day, filled with many smiles on the faces of both riders and coaches.
