Trip 5: Hacienda

IMG_7348I had almost forgot that it was winter. My skibowl night pass had been sitting unused since a decent January start. I had been riding a lot more bikes and getting a lot more sun then normal. I think because of this weirdly warm winter, I woke up extremely excited to go ride with students from Hacienda.
The ride up went smooth. Andy gave the students in his van a quick lesson in Bluegrass 101, thanks to “music from the true vine” on KBOO. In my van, chaperone Alethea from Hacienda had some get to know you questions and before we knew it we were booted up and on the hill.
Nate held it down with the more experienced kids. After a year of being away from snow, these return students picked up quickly. They were linking turns and going down bigger hills after just a few warm up laps.
Big thanks to new volunteers Leslie, Johnny, and Bailey! They did awesome with their students and we had mostly clear skies during the group lesson.
The weather came in heavy after lunch, but these kids were tough. The mountain got some much needed snow and volunteers spread out with their teams. By the end of the day, I saw some great turns, lots of hoots and hollers, and even a few tricks. Thanks Hacienda students for reminding me it’s still winter even if it’s 60 degrees and sunny in the city!
